Dan Tran
As an immigrant artist from Vietnam, I navigate between cultural spaces that at times clash, at other times converge. My practice consists of examining the ambivalence that inhabits all things - and not despair.
In the sculpture series The Zen of Immigration I explore the promise and betrayal of principles that have made us the most culturally diverse country on earth, alas on the verge of self- destruction.
In the abstract series Precarious Equilibrium of Ambivalent States I use geometric forms to meditate upon the duality-ladden relationships that exist throughout the physical, emotional and spiritual world, and invite viewers to see order and harmony within chaos and turbulence.
In the series Lost & Found in the Times of INfection I decry, through the mind of a child, the division, but also the invincible humanity that has carried us through recent political upheavals.
I also painted about the sociopolitical conditions of my country of origin, Vietnam (Legends & Myths) by re-contextualizing her legends and myths.
A smaller series (Icons) paints pop portraits of world cultural icons with a twist.
I appreciate your viewing and feedback.
